Nothing makes the answer to this abstract question clearer as when you find yourself needing to fend off extinction by hunger.
Building the Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) to harness energy and end recurring famines and hand outs that follow ; seeing our emaciated people who are dying uttering Hail Mary, Lord Almighty or Allah the merciful as their lives are/were slowly being snuffed out…this we hope will end with harnessing our water resource and energy.
Some make life for themselves out of our poverty and under development and want us to stay this way …these are not our friends and certainly are our enemies.
Unlike our enemies and with no malice to none, we want to retain water and create energy to sustain our people’s life/existence and end hunger of our nation.
As friends to our neighbors, we want to share our nations abundant gift of water. It is the right thing to do and is in our best interest.
If our neighbors want to take all the water and leave us in darkness and hunger, it won’t do. It will be death again for our people. If we must die, let’s remember Claude McKay poem.
If We Must Die
by CLAUDE MCKAY
If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursèd lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one death-blow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!
